Fuimos a Salamanca y a Segovia. English Version This summer I went to Spain for a Spanish summer course as well as for backpack travelling. I had a good time in Spain, and took a lot of pictures to remember my trip. During the first month I studied in Valladolid, a historical and cultural city with many ancient churches. The church of San Pablo is my favorite. In the sixteenth century the Spanish king—Felipe II— was even baptized there. Undoubtedly it is one of the most important monuments in Spain. I liked this church very much. Especially in the twilight, the light on the facde was overwhelmingly charming. And it is such a pleasant place that people often take a rest there or have a chat in front of the building. There are many squares in the city. A square is an ideal site for sitting down. Normally there are comfortable benches or open-air coffee tables. The people of Valladolid like to have a drink at these cafes around the square of Mayor. The majority of people also prefer meeting one another there. When my classmates and I went out for a walk or for watching movies, we always met one another in the square of Mayor. I could always find something beautiful or interesting in the city. For instance, a fountain with a pretty sculpture, an emblem on a facde, or a picture on the wall or the street. I saw a sculpture in imitation of Munch’s famous painting “The Scream.” Below it said:“Where is the justice for women?” It was very special and impressive though I don’t know if the position of women in Spanish society is lower than that of men. The National Museum of Sculpture is the best in city. There I met a friend, Antonio, a very nice Spanish man. I was so glad to know him. When we took a walk around Valladolid, he talked to me about the history and the culture of the city. In August I made two trips with my classmates. We went to Salamanca and to Segovia. I prefer Segovia. The steeples of the castle of Alcaar are very charming. They look like witch’s hats. And the landscape of the facde of every house is very special and beautiful. After studying in Valladolid I went to Galicia, which is situated to the northwest of Spain. The landscape, which is different from that of central Spain, is very green. Santiago de compostela is a holy city where a great deal of pilgrims and tourists come. When I was in Galacia, one day I went to a village, which is situated in the westernmost part of Spain, and in deed of Europe. It is called Finisterre, which means “the end of the land.” There I had met a girl and two young men who had been walking from Pampolona for thirty days like the ancient pilgrims did. Then I went to Asturias, a very marvelous place because of its beautiful nature. I went to the National Park of Picos de Europa. First I went to Convadoga and then took the bus to the lakes of the high mountains. The landscape of the mountain is terrific. It was Sunday, and many people were climbing so I went hiking too. When I was in Asturias one day I went to a village, Lians, which is located between the sea and the mountains. That day there was a traditional festival for the Virgin. Every villager wore traditional dress, and the streets were full of people. After the religious ceremony, the children, young people, and women danced merrily. In Asturias, there is also a special kind of drink, sidra, which is made of apples. When people fill a glass with sidra, they left the bottle above their heads. And when drinking, they don’t finish all the liquid but throw it to the ground. They told me that this is a kind of attribute to the land which gives apples. After Asturias, I went to many other cities. I was charmed with the architecture of Gaud in Barcelona. When I was in Valencia, I saw many rice fields and ate the typical food, paella. I was also deeply impressed by the greatest church of Spain, in Sevilla. During the second month, I visited many other nice places. More important, I had the good fortune to met many hospitable people who helped me a lot.
