Who’s the DJ tonight? When you say this, are you looking forward to hearing the voice of a DJ on the radio, or do you want to take to the dance floor? Whenever DJs are mentioned, we start to imagine a person behind turntables holding his headphones up with one shoulder and rubbing plates or tweaking knobs with his hands. Yet, have you ever wondered what a DJ actually does behind the deck? We know a DJ is supposed to play music, so DJ-ing is just playing out one song after another?

He should have called by now? Why hasn’t he? Oh maybe he’s just tied up. Maybe his dog’s died. Maybe he’s not in town. Maybe he lost my number, so maybe I should call him instead?! I think he likes me! Is he just playing hard-to-get? Why doesn’t he call? The truth is, maybe he hasn’t called simply because he’s NOT that into you; maybe all these signal takings is just a result of self-complication, so wake up, girl, he is just not that into you! by Bickey Chang
It has been more than two years since I saw James, one of my most inspiring friends. In high school, we often teasingly accused him of being the guy who did not believe in having fun; rather, he believed in always learning. He had gone on to study at Stanford after graduation, and I had not seen him since. We met over dinner with a couple of friends for an update on each other’s lives. “Actually, I wasn’t at school the past quarter. I’ve spent the last four months in China, teaching elementary kids English and doing some research.” This opened the main topic of our dinner together. It struck me how our lives had grown apart since graduation. More than that, as he began to talk of some of the social and economic problems China was facing, I realized how little I really knew about China. I had much to learn. by Willy Leung

Oh YES, in this film you’ll be satisfied by just about everything you are looking for: a happy ending, love songs, hot-shot cute actors and actresses, good-and-evil gun-shot chasing, and maybe more. However, it didn’t win 4 Golden Globes and 8 Oscars for JUST that. by Diana Tsai

Notorious yet dominant, the success of Apple Daily appears to be a paradox in itself. While adjectives associated with this media group are seldom positive—sensational, provocative, or simply “trashy”—it remains a curious success. How has this tabloid-style newspaper with a Hong Kong origin been able to upset the Taiwanese newspaper industry by outselling its prestigious traditional counterparts and even influencing the layout strategies of the industry as a whole?
