By Renwar Have you ever felt that what you are doing right now is not interesting, watching the clock on the wall minute by minute, wondering when it is going to be over? Or have you recently been losing interest in what you used to love to do? Why? Is there a reason for being bored with something? Looking at it scientifically, human emotions are just a complex and strategic way for the brain to show us what our status in life is, whether we are happy or whether we lack something. Humans have many emotions, each one of them expressing the situation that we are in. As we can see from The Plutchik wheel pictured here, we can classify different emotions depending on their intensity into different levels. Basic emotions like happiness, which most of the time occurs when you get something that you wanted, regardless of what it is, is a way of your brain rewarding itself and encouraging you to be more successful.

By Avie Shuai Yuan-Zai (圓仔) is the first giant panda born in Taiwan. She was born on July 6th, 2013, to parents Tuan-Tuan (團團) and Yuan-Yuan (圓圓). Taipei Zoo held a vote and the Taiwanese were the ones who named her. Since Yaun-Zai was born, her cute chubby body and various adorable gestures have captured people’s attention. She soon became the most popular topic in Taiwan. Many merchants have introduced new products with panda images and made great profits. Some people claim that she has the magic of curing one’s heart. Some think that her struggle to sit, stand, and walk has encouraged them. And some consider her the most appealing creature in the world. She now lives happily with her parents in Taipei Zoo. The Zoo has launched a project to allow people to follow her online. A condensed video is broadcast every day on the Taipei Zoo channel on Youtube. What’s more, Yuan-Zai will be on display for the public beginning in February.
By Olga Bessarab There is a lot to be learnt from ballet dancers, actually.
While we may think of them as skinny, tutu or tights-wearing nymphs, there is definitely more to them than meets the eye. Ballet dancers taught me the importance of eating. Ironic, isn’t it? How does one connect that lean body with the absurd idea of food being enjoyed? Ballet dancers do eat, they just do so with more wisdom than the typical student who makes a trip to the nearest convenience store and returns with cup noodles, soda, and a packet of candy. These are the key ingredients in a dancer’s diet: whole grains, lean meat, vegetables, fruit, water and consistency. They don’t skip meals, they don’t gorge themselves on fatty food (indulging in the occasional cookie or ice-cream is acceptable), and they exercise regularly. Eating right, eating regularly, and exercise. That’s all there is to it. By Jocelyn Jo-Hsuan Chung What will the world be if we ever let kids become our presidents? There will probably be more bubble guns and fewer firearms; more corndogs and Pringles; more laughing, high-fives, and cool things like birthday balloons and dinosaur-shaped nuggets, and fewer terrorist attacks and crazy explosions. It seems like a really nice place to live, doesn’t it? As a matter of fact, there actually is a real Kid President who has been dedicating himself to this vision to “make people dance.”
“GIVE THE WORLD A REASON TO DANCE” By Ching-Yuan Huang The origins of the Quebec Independence Movement can be traced back to the period of European Colonization. At that time, the French had colonized Canada for over a century. In addition to preaching Catholicism, they were interested in the considerable profits from fur trading. Eventually the British also wanted part of the trade, and they fought against the French in the French and Indian War of 1763. This conflict divided Canada into Lower Canada and Upper Canada, which today corresponds roughly to province of Quebec and the rest of Canadian provinces. Different from British Canadians who use English and practice Protestantism, most French Canadians speak French and are Catholics. Although Canada was united in 1867, some French Canadians still strongly feel that Quebec should become its own country instead of being dominated by the federal government in Ottawa.
By Lawrence Hsiao Over the past few years, Parkour has taken the world by storm, having appeared in several famous films such as Casino Royale, Johnny English Reborn, and The Hunger Games. When it comes to Parkour, many people think of a man running with super speed, climbing high walls using his bare hands, vaulting over obstacles, and jumping from a high place and landing with a rolling motion.
