I was shocked when my friend in high school told me that he wanted to be a cram school teacher in the future because he could make a lot of money. “How can a teacher earn a lot of money?” I asked. But now I understand, after having had a part-time job in a cram school for one year. It has become a trend that more and more high school students go to cram school after class, students with both high and low grades. To meet the demand, the size of the classes ranges from 80 to 500 people. Since there are so many students, the teachers d on’t waste time taking roll. Each student will have a card with a bar code. All he has to do is to pass the card through a machine and his name will be recorded by the computer. Besides, the tuition for each person is about NT 8000 for a semester. Like high schools, cram schools also provide classes of six semesters, not including short-term classes during summer and winter vacations. They won’t have only one class for students in each grade, so you can easily see how great the profit is. When I was an employee, I had the experience of collecting NT 2,000,000 in one day during the time students pay their tuition. As a cram school teacher, your income depends on how many hours you teach and how many students you have. As long as you are famous enough, you will attract many students and make lots of money. I’ve heard that a famous teacher can earn NT 20,000 in only one hour. What other job can offer you such a great amount of money? Profits are even greater if a student brings his or her classmates to the school (and they will receive a tution discount). Moreover, sometimes cram schools will send spies to other sch ools to find out their textbooks, the price of their tuition, what the classrooms look like, etc. That’s how they get information and figure out how to make better profit. Maybe you have started to consider being a cram school teacher, but there are some qualifications you must have. Are you a good-looking person? If not, that’s OK if you crack many jokes. If you can’t, you have to find something else to attract students. O nce you become a cram school teacher, you are like a star performing on the stage. Try to imagine how a star becomes famous, and you will be a successful cram school teacher. Now, the first step is to come up with a “stage name”!
