This is the 21st century and technology has infiltrated our everyday lives, becoming paramount to our daily routine. Every aspect of our lives is controlled by technology. As a result, humans are becoming lazier and lazier. I was so lazy that I copied and pasted the second “lazier.” Why must we constantly check our phones? Is there something so imminent that our eyes habitually become fixated on such a trivial device? Technological innovations are theoretically supposed to make life easier, not to make people ignorant to their surroundings. Hints of social change are already evident in our culture, and we must discontinue this trend. If we fail to do so, it will bring hoards of unintended consequences that unequivocally lead to the devolution of the human race.
We must cease this phenomenon before we Homo sapiens evolve into the next phase, Homo ignoramusTM. Homo ignoramus, from the genus “homo” and the Latin word “ignoramus” meaning stupid, will be the logical subsequent step on the human evolutionary trail. They will be characterized as consisting of an undeveloped prefrontal cortex incapable of producing full sentences (necessitating more emoticons and abbreviations), cranial capacities equivalent to ants, one muscular opposable thumb on each hand allowing for speedier texting, and amplified narcissism requiring the need for “selfies” (photos of themselves, taken by themselves).
