By M. Ting Do you believe in romantic love?
I’m a big fan of Nicholas Sparks, the American novelist who has written 17 novels, and 9 of them have been adapted into films. Dear John and The Notebook have something in common: lovers meet during summer holidays at sunset on a lovely beach or when getting wild at a festival. People fall in love. They certainly are enjoyable stories. I like Sparks’s stories a lot but according to my 20 years of experience, people just don’t bump into each other and suddenly become attached. I’ve never believed in those cheesy fairy tales, and I’m sure you don’t either. However… Last summer I took a trip to visit a relative in Leeds, in England, but she turned out to be a psycho, and after she picked a fight with me, I escaped. Stranded with my luggage, I took a train to London and luckily found a homestay. After a string of coincidences arranged by the universe, I ended up at a student party in Leicester Square. And once upon a time…

By V. Pu Did I honestly book a penthouse suite for fifteen nights? No wonder the lady at the check-in counter was being eerily nice to me. I guess it must have had something to do with the six rounds of Vodka I had last night. I swear on the life of my Louis Vuitton suitcase that I never do anything like this. My definition of getting wasted was having a glass of Mojito. But losing a client after you’ve spent months working on that freaking proposal and getting sole blame for it should be enough reason to black out for the night and make a getaway to Vegas the next day. Christmas is in three weeks anyway. So I drove all the way here from L.A. Being here reminds me of what I love most about Vegas. They say, “Las Vegas is like how God would do it if he had money.” Well, it’s how I’d do it if I had money. And forget about the money part. I’d do it in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer.
