A 14-year-old boy was arrested by Thai police after a shooting at a local shopping mall in Bangkok. The shooting killed at least two people and five others were injured, causing terrified shoppers to flee the scene. One of the deceased victims is a Chinese citizen and the other a Myanmar national. It was reported by the Police Lt. General Samran Nualma, assistant commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police, that the shooting occurred on October 3rd, 2023 at 4:20pm local time. There were videos showing crowds of people running out of the busy Siam Paragon mall in central Bangkok where the shooting took place. The suspect is only 14, attending The Essence, a private alternative secondary school near the mall, and he was armed with a modified pistol. Torsak Sukvimol, the 14th commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police reported that the suspect was a mental patient at Rajavithi Hospital and that he hadn’t been taking his medication, which is why he committed the act. “He said it was like there was another ‘him’ telling him whom to shoot,” said Sukvimol. The suspect surrendered himself after the shooting and still had ammunition when he was apprehended, according to Sukvimol. The police did not share any other details to the public because the boy is still a minor.
