As for me, I joined the International Ballroom Dancing Club right after I became a freshman at NTU. Truth be told, I didn’t watch any International Ballroom Dancing performances before I joined. I just liked the music. I particularly liked the sexy violin in Tango and the elegant piano in Waltz. Since I played both piano and violin, I wanted to see how beautiful music can be expressed in the form of dance. After long consideration, I decided to give it a try, so I signed up and paid the fee. And I was in love ever since, even though practice can be very hard work. I remember one time when we had rehearsed Latin for ninety minutes followed by a ten-minute break, we were all so tired that we just fell against the wall trying to get as much rest as possible. But one girl was so anxious to continue practicing that she wanted to rehearse during the break time as well. I felt like Frank Sinatra singing “ I won’t dance, don’t ask me… My heart won’t let my feet do things that they should do.” But I thought I should be a gentleman and agreed, even though I went home feeling like a soaking wet dog. Sometimes I had to miss classes because of other activities. Since consistency was always required, I had difficulty keeping up with the other members. Fortunately, all the instructors and other club members were willing to help me catch up and I never had any problem. This is one of the best things about the club. People are kind and always care about each other, giving us all a strong sense of belonging. Are you interested in International Ballroom Dancing? Why not join us?
The club meets every Wednesday in the First Student Activity Center, room 213, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. You don’t need to be a professional to come. All you need is a heart willing to dance! a
