Arvorig Creperie Bar
Who knew the traditional taste of France could be found right across from NTU? Located on a quite secretive spot on Roosevelt Road, the creperie is small in size, but those who have been there will never forget Arvorig. Arvorig was opened in December, 2009 by a native Frenchman, Mr. Toph Chevance. His homemade crepes have stirred a buzz amongst students, families, and French students studying in Taipei. They are able to enjoy the taste of home right in Taipei. Customers can sit at the bar and enjoy delicious, authentic French specialties. The creperie offers sweet crepes and salty crepes, also known as galettes. Fresh fruit choices such as apple with cinnamon, banana with Nutella, as well as lemon with sugar are very popular among customers. A great variety of savory selections such as tuna with tomatoes, cheese, sour cream and salad, or ham with mozzarella, parmesan, and sour cream are also of- fered. Vegetarian choices are also available. The galettes look light but are actually very solid since many have cheese in them. The ham with salad, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream that I tried was a nice blend of flavors. Nothing overpowers the taste of the other ingredients. It was very filling. On the sweet side, the apple with homemade caramel is the one of most popular flavors in the store. The apples are cooked with butter, then combined with homemade caramel, and finally folded into the thin, soft crepe. You can share two crepes among friends, one sweet and one savory; therefore, you’ll be able to try the taste of both! If you want to try something else along with your crepe, the menu also offers Breton apple cider, rice pudding, hot chocolate, espresso, and more. (Prices of crepes range from $50NT to $180NT.) A very affordable treat for college students. My Sweetie Pie exudes a welcoming atmosphere the moment you step in the cozy café. I was delighted when I saw the stunning cakes on display and had an awfully hard time selecting my dessert of choice. In the end, the glistening Strawberry Pie caught my eye! What girl could resist? The friendly store manager allowed me to go behind the scenes and see the master chef at work. So follow me and let’s see how the strawberry delight was created! Not only was the cake pleasing to the eye, it was also delicious! No wonder it is one of their customers’ favorites! The chocolate and cream filling was moist and silky, not too rich or heavy and the crust was very crisp. The combination is a stroke of genius. The pie was quite filling though. Just the pie and a cup of tea was the perfect amount for lunch. If you are craving something salty, My Sweetie Pie also has many other choices such as omelets, homemade beef lasagna, and tortilla pizza with sausage. Quiches are offered specially on Saturdays. I really enjoyed the tasty food and friendly atmo- sphere. Hope you will too! [Location: #3 Lane 93 Shida Rd. Taipei Telephone: (02) 3365-3448 Open: Mon-Fri: 12:00AM-12:00PM Sat.
