By Gloria Kuo Getting married is a big step in life, and couples exert all their strength to make their wedding significant and memorable. Most people hold a wedding banquet in a restaurant, a hotel, or a neighboring street. However, here are some ideas for weird and unique weddings that will amaze you. A wedding in the air
It might be hard to believe, but about thirty years ago a couple in Taiwan accomplished the first parachute wedding. An air force parachuting teacher met a sporty, outgoing girl who wanted to learn the skill. Her boldness and perseverance attracted him, and during her training the girl fearlessly passed every test, even those that many men failed to complete. They fell in love. And while gazing from the helicopter upon the vast, green grassland which was going to welcome them, they decided on a parachute wedding. It was only her third jump, but they made an unprecedented decision to marry in mid-air. (Note: this would be convenient for couples to drop in wherever they liked for their honeymoon.) A wedding under water In a scuba diving wedding there are no wedding gowns but only diving suits, oxygen cylinders, and respirators. The newly-wed couple can hold a baby shark in their arms or watch the animals being fed. Shoals of fish roaming around can be the witnesses of their great love. A wedding in a flood Not as romantic as a scuba wedding, this couple also married in the water. They insisted on getting married despite the fact that torrential rain had just flooded the entire area with waist-high water. So the bride wore a raincoat in addition to her wedding dress, and the groom, as if going fishing, even had his long rubber boots on. The flood was their red carpet, and having received everyone’s blessing, the groom supported the bride with his hand and they carefully crossed over the sandbags to prostrate themselves to their ancestors. There they finally completed their “wedding impossible!” Disneyland wedding Ever fantasized about having a Disney wedding when you were little? With US$3000 your dream will not be just a dream, but a real ceremony including a brief ritual, a small cake, a night in a Disney Hotel, and a free tour of Disneyland the following day. If you paid more even Mickey and Minnie Mouse might be special guests at your wedding. It is said that among all the themes available, Cinderella is the most popular. The bride and groom are seated in a glass carriage. A wedding in your own church There is nothing special about a church wedding, but this church was no ordinary place, since Russell Crowe had it specially built for his marriage to Danielle Spencer. Situated in the center of Crowe’s pastureland in Australia, the windows, adorned with stained glass, faced west in order to let in the light of sunset and illuminate his bride’s veil, stitched with ten thousand crystals. Last but not least, the climax of the wedding was a rain of champagne falling from a balloon nine meters in the sky. Blood wedding In China there is a clan who show their love by “biting hands.” When springtime comes, boys and girls sing out loud and hunt for the person of their heart. After listening to men’s proposals of marriage, the girls must bite the men’s hands. If the man doesn’t feel pain then he should find someone else to bite him. But if the girl leaves bloody tooth marks the couple can get married immediately, for it means that she shows the same strong passion for him! Of course, every wedding ceremony is unique, and these are just funny ideas. But most importantly, the true cornerstone of any marriage is love. a
