By Phonshia Nge With the holiday season approaching, finding the perfect gift for your loved one is essential. The perfect gift, however, doesn’t have to empty your pockets and as the saying goes “it’s the thought that counts.” The key to an inexpensive, yet very romantic gift simply requires personalizing the present for the recipient. Here are a few ideas for gift giving that are easy, yet meaningful. Candy, Snacks and Dessert
One of the most traditional gifts for winning the heart of a loved one is food. Surprising your loved one with merely a box of chocolates, however, is not enough. Take the time to consider his or her favorite candy, snack or dessert. With this in mind, you can create a grab bag full of his or her favorite goodies. Stored in a decorated shoe box or a bag tied with an elegant ribbon, this personal, yet useful and tasty present can be used for a first date or even for a more special anniversary or holiday gift. Scrapbooks The times you have shared with your loved one will always remain in your and his or her memory, however, giving a personalized scrapbook allows you to remind your loved one of the special times you consider to be most important. Giving a scrapbook you have thought about, created, and designed reflects your love and effort towards your loved one. What are your favorite memories together? Decorate your scrapbook with inside jokes, tickets stubs from the things you’ve done together, and most importantly, photos of you and your loved one. With a scrapbook, you are able to create an original present irreplaceable by any other. Handmade Cards Handmade presents, if crafted carefully, can prove to be some of the best and least expensive presents for a romantic anniversary or holiday. For example, crafting the perfect birthday card or Christmas card is possible and doesn’t require much artistic skill. Using stickers, photos, magazine cutouts, song lyrics or any other creative alternative, you can create a card that reflects your own unique personality and demonstrates the effort and time your put forth in your relationship. Though Hallmark produces meaningful greeting cards that are appropriate for many occasions, a homemade card for a romantic occasion conveys much deeper and meaningful emotions. Personalized Items Other ideas for hand making a present include purchasing personalized matching travel coffee mugs with a picture holder. This allows you to decorate your matching mugs with photos of each other or other favorite photos. If you are skilled at certain handicrafts such as knitting or painting, knit a scarf or paint a painting unique for your loved one. Though such presents seem like an easy way out of a tight financial situation during the holiday season, the effort you put forth will be obvious and much appreciated. So before you spend all your saved money and head to the department store or market, first consider how you can personalize your gift. Don’t overlook your own capability of hand making or personally crafting the ideal present for a romantic occasion. (TIPS) Presentation Matters Even if your gift is extremely expensive or extremely meaningful, if you present your loved one with your gift in an unromantic and unplanned situation, all can end in disaster. Whether it’s a Saturday night date or you’re spending Christmas together, an outing can be made more special by meticulous planning and formal arrangements such as: Email Invitations Even before the big night or day begins, email an online invitation requesting the presence of your date. Such a formal invitation to someone you probably speak with daily will make him or her understand how important and special the occasion is to you. Reservations and Advance Tickets If you’re going to a dinner and a movie, make a reservation and buy the tickets in advance. Though it may or may not save you the trouble of waiting, it also shows your date that you planned ahead and made appropriate arrangements to ensure a smooth night. a
